Partha Pratim Majumder
The original name of Partha Pratim Majumder is Premanshu Kumar Biswas. He was born in 1954 in Pabna. His family was a culturally enlightened family. He spent most of his childhood in a small
locality at Kalachandpara in Pabna. He is a mine artist and is considered the ‘forerunner’ of mime art in Bangladesh. After receiving primary education he was sent to Chandannagar, India. There he
was admitted into ‘Dr Shitol Prasad Ghosh ideal school. He met ‘Jogesh Dutta’ there who was a mime artist. Till then he became interested in mime art. He studied at the Jogesh Dutta Mime Academy between 1966 and 1972 and received basic knowledge about the art. In 1979 the then
French Ambassador to Dhaka ‘Loic Moreau’ got impressed to see his solo performance at Shilpakala Academy. In 1981 French Government offered him a scholarship to obtain professional training on
mime. He got training there from 1982. In 1986 he performed a solo titled ‘Boatman of Padma at the UNESCO Head quarter. Later he performed In England, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and the USA. Thus he got worldwide recognition and reputation for his outstanding performance. He
was awarded ‘Ekushey Padak in 2010.
