Mother Teresa was born on 26th August, 1910 in Scopje, Macedonia. Her father was an Albanian.She was the third child of her parents. She was a Roman Catholic sister and missionary. At the age of 18 she left home and joined the Sister of Loreto in Ireland. She was a helping hand to the destitute and wanted to become a missionary from her childhood. In 1929 she arrived India and began her novitiate. There she learned Bangla and started to teach at a girls school in Calcutta. All her life she
wanted to help the depressed, deprived and rootless people. To fulfill her mission she founded ‘Nirmal Hridoy’ in 1952. Later she established an orphanage in 1953. She established a missionary also. The
missionary helped the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind and the lepers. She and her missionary of charity helped those people who were unloved and uncared and who had become a burden to the society and were shunned by everyone. Mother Teresa was award the ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ for her struggle to overcome poverty and distress. This great lady breathed her last on 5th September 1997.
